Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant support from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
