People have come together throughout the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "achieve all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The national leadership delayed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the families of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' delegations met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the provisions of the agreement.

A senior delegate involved in the discussions indicated that an late session of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, because of conflicting views over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume combat after the first phase of the agreement.

He commented that the talks are "difficult and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that mediators are striving to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Key Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The swap of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • Future governance of the area

Citizen Reaction

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "No place feels like home any longer and until all the hostages are released no one will feel safe."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence heal," she concluded.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their backing for the relatives of the captives. Israel says 48 remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Activist one woman remarked: "We must do every compromise necessary for the captives to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of Israeli citizens want the war to conclude in return for the liberation of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to remember the victims.

From there, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people indicated the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, attacks were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, sector and locality neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"Once the night arrives, the fear comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, described.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, embracing, especially my little child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we check the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the fighting will resume to us."

Medical Emergency

The healthcare center in the urban area said it had taken in the corpses of six people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said additional victims had been delivered. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the south, medical staff said.
