Paceman Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery in his spell on Saturday.

The England team reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle at the SCG gets underway this coming Sunday.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of teammates to reach double figures.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he resumed the next day and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
