The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
